Violet Miller is a teacher savoring her summer break until she's been called in as emergency reinforcements-of the dating kind. She volunteers to help an old flame by pretending to be his girlfriend. In Alaska. At a family reunion. Since the guy is a handsome, lumberjack-sized doctor she's never quite forgotten, faking a relationship won't be hard work.

Mike Ostranski is a desperate man on vacation. His mother wants grandchildren and sees a crazy Alaskan woman as a candidate for daughter-in-law. Mike needs Violet by his side to deflect the lady's advances.

A week in Alaska as boyfriend and girlfriend should be easy for them. They grew up together, even had a brief fling. What could go wrong?

Everything.

When I started reading this book and saw that the mc, Violet, lives in Bozeman, Montana, I instantly thought of the episode of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon relocates to Bozeman after having their apartment broken in to. I wondered if maybe the author saw this episode and decided to use it as her backdrop for her gnome series?

Bozeman, Montana. The Most Livable Place.
Bozeman, Montana. The Most Livable Place.

This book has all kinds of things going on in it. From naked neighbors trying to climb in to any where (or on him?) Mike might be, to a mother doing every thing she can to get her son married and some grandbabies out of him.

Violet Miller is a school teacher, who secretly (or maybe no-so-secretly) wants to write word porn (aka erotic romance novels) for a living. She’s afraid of what people will think if she does that, so instead of writing, she took on teaching.  It’s summer time and her sister is off with her boyfriend so Violet is working her sister’s job at the local sex toy shop. Ha! One day she answers the phone at the shop and on the other end is the boy that got away after High School, Mike Ostranski. You see, Mike is up in Alaska at a family reunion, and his mother is crazy desperate for her only child to hurry up and get married and give her some grandbabies. She’s so desperate she’s trying to hook up Mike to his uncle’s crazy, and boy do I mean C-R-A-Z-Y, neighbor.  Mike isn’t too keen on that, and no matter what he says to Susan, the bat shit crazy neighbor, she won’t take the hint and leave him alone. So he’s taken it upon himself to find himself a “girlfriend” and quick, so that he can finally enjoy his family reunion without having to find a crazy naked lady everywhere he goes..

This book was like reading a book adaption of the movie ‘THE PROPOSAL”.  Only WAY BETTER..and without the kick ass grandma:

bettywhite

and instead Mike has the dad from Sweet Home Alabama for an uncle:

SWA

Also, we don’t have to watch Sandra Bullock (or as my dad refers to as, Sandra BLECH. Hah.) rap “To the sweat drip down my balls.”

I really enjoyed this book. It was hilarious, especially with scenes with Goldie! The characters were amazing, and holy crap..if it were me, I would’ve had me a french dip with a little au jus..but good for Violet..She has some self control! Hah.  I didn’t realize that this book was a part of an already existing book universe, but apparently the characters from Jennifer Zane’s gnome series are a part of this book. After reading this book, which CAN be read as a stand alone, I am definitely going to be checking out the rest of Jennifer’s books!
I normally don’t go for Gingers but Jennifer Zane made me fall in love hardcore with Mike..might be his “take charge” ways..yum..I love a well written Alpha male.  He was great and I loved him and Violet t, They were good together…

If you like  a good romantic comedy with a tad bit of suspense and drama, I definitely suggest you check this book out!
